Our featured cosmetic dentistry treatments include:
Porcelain veneers, sometimes referred to as “instant orthodontics” or laminates, are ultra-thin custom-made ceramic shells which are bonded directly to the front teeth, providing a brighter, straighter, natural-looking smile. Porcelain veneers can be used to treat badly stained, crooked, chipped, or broken teeth. Veneers can also correct minor misalignments. Their versatility makes porcelain veneers one of the most common cosmetic dentistry options currently available.
Dr. J. Brent Gorrell routinely places dental veneers and designs each case to individually match or improve the current characteristics of a patient’s teeth. Check out our Smile Gallery, which features some of our previous Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, and Mountain View patients who have had porcelain veneers placed by Dr. Gorrell.
Once bonded to the patient’s teeth, porcelain veneers are virtually undetectable. Dr. Gorrell can match the veneers’ color to your existing natural teeth or improve your smile’s overall brightness. Porcelain veneers are extremely resistant to staining agents (such as coffee, cigarettes, and soft drinks) and often last well over a decade. For durability and their uncanny resemblance to healthy, natural teeth enamel, porcelain veneers are unsurpassed by other cosmetic options.
The procedure is typically completed in two appointments. During the first appointment, the patient’s teeth are lightly buffed and reduced by about half a millimeter. A mold is taken so the permanent porcelain veneers can be produced. At the second appointment, the patient and dentist will review the color and shape. Once satisfied, the veneers will be bonded to the patient’s teeth with special, light-activated cement.
Dr. Gorrell will make sure your porcelain veneers are crafted from superior quality porcelains and are bonded with the most advanced proven materials. If you would like to know more about porcelain veneers, contact our Mountain View office – serving Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, and northwest Santa Clara County. Dr. Gorrell can determine if porcelain veneers are right for you.
Dental bonding is another restorative procedure that can restore discolored, cracked, chipped, or misaligned teeth and is typically a less costly alternative to porcelain veneers. The patient’s teeth are lightly etched and a special bonding solution is applied. A plastic resin is then applied and Dr. Gorrell molds it into the intended shape. Once the resin hardens, it is polished, trimmed, and smoothed, producing a natural, restored appearance. Dental bonding can usually be completed in one office visit. Bonding can improve your teeth’s aesthetics significantly and the results typically last three to five years before restorations are required.
A relatively new, revolutionary development in cosmetic dentistry, tooth-colored, or composite, fillings have done away with their unsightly metal amalgam predecessors. Composite fillings restore decayed teeth using an ultra-durable porcelain resin which blends with natural teeth. If you are one of the thousands of Americans with existing amalgam fillings and would like them replaced by their clandestine counterparts, contact our Mountain View office – serving Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, and the Greater San Jose area.
Inlays and onlays, similar to composite fillings, are composite resin pieces which are bonded to the damaged area of a patient’s tooth. An inlay is used inside the cusp tips of the tooth. An onlay is a bit more of a substantial reconstruction, similar to the inlay but extending over one or more of the tooth’s cusps. Both are custom-made and are cemented into place. Onlays can produce results similar to that of dental crowns but allow more of the tooth’s natural structure to be conserved and can last from 10 to 30 years. With CEREC® technology porcelain inlays and onlays can be placed in just one office visit. Gold inlays/onlays require two visits. To learn more about inlays and onlays, porcelain veneers, or any of our other cosmetic treatments, contact our Mountain View office.
A dental bridge is a custom-made device which replaces a missing tooth or teeth and is fused between two porcelain crowns. The crowns serve as abutments holding the replacement tooth/teeth in place. The dental bridge is then affixed to the crowns and is not removable. Bridges reduce the risk of gum disease, can correct some bite issues, and improve patient’s speech. Although dental bridges require comprehensive oral hygiene, they often last for more than 10 years. Bridges are constructed from metals, porcelain, or a combination of materials. When deciding which material is right for you, Dr. Gorrell will consider aesthetics, functionality, and tissue compatibility.
We all expose our teeth to harmful staining agents such as coffee, soft drinks, tobacco, tea, and more. Often regular brushings and dental cleanings are unable to remove these embedded stains. Teeth whitening has become one of the most popular and effective procedures offered due to its dramatic results (check out our Smile Gallery) and minimal time requirements.
